I am having the same identical problem as described by Dennis.
immediately after switching to the 2.2.1 kernel depmod and insmod have
started failing with:

error in loading shared libraries
undefined symbol: __bzero

I have installed all the updated packages located in the kernel2.2
directory.  Any suggestions are of course greatly appreciated!
