[newbie] lilo problems

Upon installing Mandrake 5.2 on a clean system
using "Custom" option I've found that it will not install
lilo on the partition I want, not on the master boot record.
I had to create a boot diskette in order to complete
the installation. 

Has anyone else had this problem?
