I'm not sure what you've done when uninstalling the glib/gtk+ packages
that would cause the system not to start, but it sounds like you made a
drastic mistake somewhere along the line. About the only thing that
wouldn't start if you removed those packages is GIMP.
Anyway, the GNOME FTP mirrors have updated glib/gtk+ packages
available. Grab both the glib-*, glib10*, gtk+-*, and gtk+10 packages.
The "10" packages provide the older versions of the libraries that
you'll need for GIMP.
To install them, just "rpm -Uvh *.rpm" in the directory containing the
updated packages.
