Before you do that try sorting with procmail/ fetchmail combo. I
searched for something that would give me the functionality I was used
to in Windows and that did it for filtering. I use tkrat for reading
the mail here (I did not really like a couple of things about kmail.

They are not the easiest to setup but do a good job of handling things.
Tkrat will even do pgp if you are so inclined.
