go to your monitor manufactur's web site and find out all the spec's on your monitor. find out all the spec's on your video card. when you set up x use the closest settings to your monitor and vidcard that you can. for the resolution, start at 640X480 in 8 bit color, then go to 16 bit color, then try 24 bit. If all that works , step it up to 800X600. Go as high as you can. If you have a 17 inch monitor, 1024X768 at 24bit color looks fine. from the command line you can run Xconfigurator to set it all up. I have a viper330 and a sony 17se and I had to set it all up by hand, kinda sucked but I understand more about the process now. Dave
