Thanks a lot.  That clears things up.  On more question if anyone cares do 
discuss.  I see that there are two similar sub dir:
[root@localhost src]# ls
linux@  linux-2.4.19-5mdk/  RPM/
Both /linux and /linux-2.4.19-5mdk/ seem to have the same substructure.  Is 
the linux-2.4.19-5mdk/ dir a mandrake specific kernel?
