What do you mean by "start menu tab"?

Kstart menu- netwoeking - mail - mozilla messenger.

Try to start mozilla from the command line. Write down any error messages.

Ok, but first let me say this problem began yesterday after my involvement with
freeserve, my isp, and lasted about 2 hours, I went away , came back , rebooted
and all began to work normally again, so I'm not sure what this proves, but,

/usr/bin/mozilla -mail,

up come mozilla messenger.

So you see I'm left wondering what I did that upset mozilla, and what happened
to correct the fault.Plus while the fault was there , calling mozilla messenger
form mozilla, the browser, and that little icon at the bottom of the window, the
second in from the left, caused mozilla browser to crash, until , the problem
with mozilla messenger righted itself. I don't know whether this helps.

At the time I thought, at least it felt as though, freeserve website had tried to perform
this telephone numer update with it, while of course , their website only knows about
IE and outlook, and thus interfered in some way with mozilla messenger
settings. But you said you don't think this is likely, fair enough. However if
it was not that then I wonder what I did that messed up mozilla messenger
for a while, and indeed will it happen again. There does not seem to be any
core file dump in home directory . Is there any history file somewhere that I could check.
