I don't know windowmaker, I'm afraid, as I use the kde desktop.  I think 
someone else would have to advise you there.  Mandrake is closely bound to 
the kde desktop, so it's probably the easiest way to start, though quite 
unsuitable if you have lower resources.

The theory, with supermount, is that you can simply put in a disk and click on 
the mountpoint in any browser, and be able to see it.  The problem, I think, 
is that you have to close anything that might cause it still to be mounted 
before you can eject - and that includes any opened trees in a file browser.
