I do not have a USB CDRW, so I cannot give practical advice, but this site may

Also take a look at dmesg  It should show you the dialogue when the 
usb-storage module got loaded.  Your lsmod table shows the module got loaded, 
but no devices are using the module.

One problem I have seen with other usb devices is a message like "Device not 
accepting address" This in my case was an IRQ interrupt problem.
