the NOapic option is one of a few switches that can be passed to the kernel 
durring install or bootup. if this Mother Board has onboard video, that will 
also cause a freeze in about the same place if the mem=xxx (with xxx being 
the amount of system memory minus the "shared" video memory so that an 8 meg 
shared video mem and an 128 meg video stick, I would pass mem=118, with an 
extra 2 megs thrown in for comfort
