At least I tried. The grunge build up was responsible for a lot of mouse
trouble for people that I know in the past. :-)

For a 5 button mouse you may have to manually edit the mouse section of
XF86Conf-4 to reflect the buttons and their mapping. I think. I don't have a
5 button mouse (or a clue) but it seems logical that you might have to
"teach" it how to use all the buttons.

Maybe copy'n'paste the mouse section of that file (/etc/X11/XF86Conf-4) to a
message since you have Stephen's attention now. "Listen" to his advice since
he's a hell of a lot more knowledgeable than I'll ever hope to be.

It's possible I suppose that the mouse is in a snit 'cause it's being asked to
communicate with something other than Windows. ;)

Good luck.

In Dr. Johnson's famous dictionary patriotism is defined as the last
resort of the scoundrel. With all due respect to an enlightened but
inferior lexicographer I beg to submit that it is the first.
