I would edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and remove 1024x768., and make sure 800x600 is the first in the list. But there might be a GUI method somewhere. If you move 1024x768 to the end of the list of resolutions it will start in the first given resolution, but the desktop will still be 1024x768, (ie the largest given resolution,) and you will need to scroll to see it all. -- Richard Urwin
