If you have run it first as root it should have set up a user 
directory for you.  OTOH, if something you have done has foobarred 
that, it will give you headaches, so I suggest that you look for the 
hidden file .openoffice and rename it .ooOld, or similar, then try to 
start up again as a user.  It should create a new one for you.
