Lions and tigers and bears!
PC-Tel started selling Linmodems August 2nd and they are HSP devices, not even
DSP.
Now I am very suspicious about the Personal Internet Appliance which uses
Debian doctored slightly. I know there is a PCChips MB (the 748MR) with an
on-board PC-Tel HSP 56K V.90 rotsaruck. And it uses a Celeron 333. PIA Specs
a Celeron 333 with 32Mb RAM, 2G or larger HDD, 56K V.90 Modem and they delayed
production because they were finalizing their choice of a MB (Original date was
Linux Expo time, Aug 10)
Well, I ordered one of those Personal Internet Appliances, so we shall soon
see. If it is the M748MR, I think I'll drop in a Celeron 300A and kick the bus
speed to 100. Either I'll smoke it or I'll have a Celeron 450 that will be for
all practical purposes equal to a P-II 450. And I can always add an external
real modem.
Thanks, Dan, I think. Following links brought me to the linmodem project
(mostly interested in computer based telephony) and to the "wonderful" news
about PC-Tel and their LinModem. (Complete with Binary Driver)
