and now i feel really dumb.....

turns out that sound wasn't coming through the cable line.  i have a mpeg on 
the desktop, short clip i took of one of my dogs in REM sleep (Rapid Eye 
Movement) with her paws and legs twitching.  guess i'd accidentily slide the 
mouse over it and it'd start, but no media player would pop up, no image 
would pop up, just sound!  and here i thought i had the loch ness monster 
living in my computer!  (show on the loch ness monster was on TV when i shot 
the video clip).  DOH!
