Nothing scary at all. You probably missed the question whether or not you
wanted a graphical login. You can still change that.

You`ll want to start the graphical, or X window server. Some installs have
the package Xtart, but usually X will do as a start command:

type:
Xtart
(case sensitive!)

or type:
X
(capital X)

not sure anymore what is in a pristine install: I prefer not to reinstall,
always try to update. Wait a few moments and you will get a login screen
for the username & password.

Pity, potentially you could damage something; but usually you wouldn`t. If
you can`t get out in any way do [ Ctrl + Alt + Del ] and the box will
reboot.

After you login and before you logout please go to the `Configure your
computer`, which you should find in the menu. If you happen to have been bit
by the menu bug, please do [ Alt + F2 ], type in the command box `mcc` and
enter. Give the root password you recorded during installation.

Go to `System` and `Display manager` (traffic sign). Choose MdkKDM and press
OK. Next reboot you should get the graphical login screen instead of the
nice big black screen.

You probably unselected the services during install. While in the same
`System` screen of the MCC, press icon for DrakXServices and you get a
screen showing all kinds of services which can / should or should not run.
Select portmap and random, press Start for both and flag `On boot` for both.

Enjoy!
