Well, I used the web versions last year, TaxAct.  It is really the exact same 
software as the standalone version.  I have Windows available at work if I 
really wanted to bother with it but I would rather use the web version and 
stay with Linux.  Not to mention that buying tax software for $50 seems kind 
of expensive given that you can get it via web for free and simply pay the 
fee for electronic filing or just print it and fill out the forms by hand 
after you are done.

Tax software will probably always be tough for Linux.  Coding the software 
isn't hard but hiring the lawyers and accountants to doublecheck tax law 
costs money and opensource doesn't leave much room to recoup those kinds of 
costs.  

Personally,  I expect we will see Linux tax software about the time that they 
simplify tax laws, namely never.  Until then, I am going to stick to online 
offerings.
