For the vast majority of people, USB does "just work" with Linux. You're experiencing a quirk due to your hardware or the way you've set up your system. Sometimes Windows has problems too. I reinstalled Win2000 on my Dell Inspiron laptop a while ago, and the base install has some major problems. The reason that people have so few problems with Windows is that it is preinstalled on the machine by the manufacturer, who performs tweaks equivalent to "disabling APIC" to work around problems with their systems. And of course they don't ever ship a system that they can't get Windows working on. One day manufacturers will have to treat Linux compatibility the same way :-) Yes, Linux does have weaknesses. It's fair to say that it is still less friendly to newcomers than Windows. However saying you were "pointing out a Linux weakness in an effort to help solve the issue" isn't true. You were frustrated which is understandable (we all get that way with computers sometimes :-). But it wasn't a constructive comment. Once you have solved the problem, sending the details of the problem + your hardware details, etc. to the USB developers *would* be constructive. Regards, Simon
