Add the following line to your /etc/modules.conf file: probeall usb-interface usb-uhci
Then restart the machine and then you can issue a dmesg command from command line and see if you get any errors reported.
Now things are starting to work.
On bootup I now see "Initializing USB controller" and "Mounting USB file system"
HardDrake now shows "USB UHCI root hub" in addition to the USB controller.
USBView now loads without error and displays my UPS!
It appears that USB is now working!
Thank you!
So, can you tell me why it was broken? I assume that the UHCI was already in the kernal, but I'm not clear on why it wasn't loading to begin with.
Thanks again Bryan.
Interestingly my modules.conf has a bit more, not sure why, I do have usb1 and usb2 ports, maybe that has something to do with it? probeall usb-interface usb-ohci ehci-hcd usb-uhci John
