Use it with "kooka" on KDE if you want a gui for it. Works very nicely in combination with "sane" The only thing sort of unclear is that it creates it's own directory and sees only that. The folder is made in .kde/share/apps/ScanImages/ which isn't that obvious IMHO. So if you want to scan an image you've already got, you have to move it into that folder.
