Which "viruses" are you referring to?  If any of the recent Windows worms, 
then this statement is, in fact, incorrect.  To my knowledge, a windows worm 
can not send itself out from a Linux machine.  Even the MyDoom must execute 
on the target machine to begin to propagate out.  If you are referring to the 
sparse numbers of Linux viruses, I don't know of any that are currently in 
the wild.

Actually, a much better way to detect a Linux virus would be to run a Linux 
anti-virus scanner.  There are such applications, they may not get a lot of 
publicity since they aren't used much, but I currently run one on my system 
and there are more than a few available.
