Alas... I ran gtkam, found the USB Generic PTP class camera, and it told me that it could not initalize the camera, and could not list "/".

I really start to believe the kernel message that there are no modules for the camera.

I found out that the Belkin card readers are well supported in Linux, so I am going to order one. For 27 euros I should be up and running rather quickly.
