I had already tried typing mcc before I posted my problem.Bash gives me an error that says it doesn't know anything about a command named MCC.
Someone suggested the update-menus command so I tried that. That seems to be doing something because the output the command gives seems to indicate it's working but there is no visible change in my menus.

Then I don't have any more ideas. If it was happening to me at this time I would reinstall. Before you do however you might wait a while until someone tells us why that is the stupidest thing you could do.
It seems that you have some important packages missing from your original installation, including the "drakes" - the packages that make up MCC (the Mandrake Control Centre). Rather than doing a complete reinstall, you might be better off just installing the missing bits. You should be able to do this through Konqueror from your CDs - if you don't know how, ask, and I'll send the instructions!
Once you've got all the vital packages, I can talk you through sorting the menu problem - I had the same problem myself with menus on 9.2 and I've still got all the details on file.
