What I ment by out of the box.
I'm not great at explaining things, but I'll do my
best.
I ordered - Linux Mandrake 6.1
power-pack.
The mainboard (mobo) in my new computer,
is the Abit-be6-II. This board has the onboard High Point
Controller. An ata-udma-66 controller.
There is a "Mini-Howto" on this controller.
I have printed and read this mini-howto and others, which pertain to
udma and large drives etc. My drives being Quantum fireball KA ..
ata-66 udma drives. A 9.5 Gig & 18 Gig.
The Problem:

" Since there are many people out there who need HPT366 support but
does not want to adopt the experimental kernels, the author of the
driver, Andre Hedrick, has kindly provided a patch against the stable
2.2.13 kernel. "
Mandrake 6.1 and HPC-366 / Abit-be6.
I won't be able to install Mandrake out of the box. If you take a
quick peek at the howto,

you'll see why. The kernel needs patching, but before that, one has
to get linux to find a drive and etc, before any patching can take
place.
Questions?
The Mini-Howto says .. get the patch and 2.2.13 Kernel and the do as
it says. How can I do all this and keep the benefits of Mandrake
6.1 - Power pack - install?
Will I need to setup all my hardware, like video, soundcard, modem and
etc by hand?
