[newbie] Linux Mandrake boot problem

I've installed Linux Mandrake 6.1 from PC Answers CD-Rom. After booting I get the "local host:login" prompt but cannot log in. I've tried root password to no vail.   Is there a special login password?   Regards   Gerry Cook
