IDE? If so, try the following in your /etc/lilo.conf:
append="hd(x)=ide-scsi"
and replace (x) with the letter of your ATAPI CDR (i.e. hda
for primary master, hdb for primary slave, hdc for
secondary master and hdd for secondary slave.)
