The Winmodem will not work in Linux, because part of the firmware for the modem is simulated in software. Any ISA modem with jumper or dip switches for port and IRQ configuration should work OK. You do not have to use a 56K v.90 modem if you do not want to, however, you will get better connect speeds if you do.
