I'm a newbie and I found it rather painless.
Once you install the package just open the /etc/lilo.conf file with your
favorite word processor and look for a line that will contain "2.2.13-17mdk
". Change it to the new kernel number...."2.2.13-22mdk". Save and exit the
word processor and at the prompt issue the command: "/sbin/lilo.conf -v"
(without the quotes).
Now Lilo should be pointing to your new kernel...

good luck
