I'm using a creative ensoniq that i paid $22 for and it works great.

DO NOT go for the OSS drivers for Yamaha. You're much better off spending
that same amount on a SoundBlaster Card. Even with the
commercial OSS, it is still not fully functional and has a couple of bugs.
If I could do it all over again, I would get an SB card.
I've seen some nice ones around $29 and they're a snap to get running.
