I've posted this help awhile back...
but I'll post it again...
I'm also a newbie...for about 3 months now...
but I've noticed one thing...in those three months...
Linux IS (no doubt in my mind)...the best OS there is,
outside of UNIX itself. It puts windows to shame...
The reason most of us...have trouble (at first)...
is due to not installing correctly...
granted Mandrake 7.0 and 7.02 is supposed to make this
process easier....and it does. However, you first must
make sure...that all hardware is compatible.
Once this is done, if you have trouble with the UPGRADE
install option...then what you need to do...is this:
1. completely remove/re-format all linux partitons.
2. instead of doing a upgrade...do a complete re-install,
a fresh install, making new partitons...etc.
in other words, starting from scratch...
I had countless problems myself, in installing linux
the first time...until, I found this remedy...
3. If you still have problems, then it is most likely
in the CD itself...(or, whereever/whatever you installed from)
i.e. check to make sure the CD is clean from all debris, is
scratchfree, etc. I don't care what others may tell you,
a CD ...CAN and WILL mess up....if not properly taken care of.
4. Try downloading the files again...if this is how you installed.
Goodluck and God bless
