Thanks for your help, I've fixed it. Well, someone told me how to fix it.
Apparently I had an automount running. Stop it and ftp works again. Now all
I have to do is get FrontPage Server Extensions working. That'll be fun.

Ow, my brain.

Give me a bit to chew on this one -- it sure smells like a reverse
lookup failure, though if it were... you would be having trouble
telnetting, too...

Okay -- what's in /etc/mtab?
