Hi All,

I am still without a connection to the internet. I am starting to wonder if
I perhaps should consider re-installing? Everything seems to be working
just beautifully. I still am lost as to what I am missing to get my modem
to work (no it is not a winmodem). I have a Creative labs Modem Blaster 56K
v.90/K56 type modem.

What have I done thus far;

I have set 'kppp'
configured my modem and connection using 'LinuxConf'
and 'NetConf'
I have checked my ppp0 configuration in 'ifup'

I have also gone root and run;

less /var/log/messages

which generated over 2000 lines of output (I haven't even been online with
it yet :))

I was unable to find anything helpful to me there.

Then I made the only change that resulted in any change and that was I
reset the com port
aka ttyS2 I changed to ttyS1 and I got some movment. After which when I
tell kppp to dial instead of the old message that said "looking for modem"
it now says "initializing modem" which seemed at first like an improvement
however I have yet to figure out what else it is requiring.

Also when I run /sbin/ifup ppp0 it reports "taking longer than expected to
complete"
failed to activate ppp0 with error 8 & error 9

Also I have changed the init string from the old ATZ to;
AT&FE0V1S0=0&C1&D2+MR=2;+DR=1;+ER=1;W0
as per recommendations from "Ask Mr. Modem".

Similarly when I run mount /dev/cdrom2 I get
'is not a valid block device
return 32
"
checking permissions
"
"
"

I guess I am wondering, if I reinstall can I do a better job at configuring
my modem and my second cdrom etc from DrakX with a fresh install?
Also I think I used the supermount option, and from what I have read here
it may be better for me to not use that option.

Thanks for any and all input.

PS - Did I say I LOVE this OS?
