Well that's one I haven't heard (no doubt among many), but I'm using
com1 irq4 and Linux to write this. The best way I've heard to tell
(although this could be wrong too) is if the modem doesn't have any
jumpers.  My modem is a Diamond Supra Express internal speaker phone 56k
/ V.90 and I had to disable the plug and play under Red Hat 5.2 using
the jumpers and manually configure for the setup I'm using now.  I
haven't bothered to see if any other setting works because those work
with both Windows and Linux, although I think I've heard plug 'n play
modems might be in the works.
