I was fooling with the networking configurater and all of a sudden from
having a perfect Kppp modem set up I started getting exactly as described
below. So I went back in and took out all of the network config stuff and
rebooted and voila! I have my connection back. My suggestion is to go into
Drakconf and make sure all of the networking config is blank with the
exception of your NIC card config.  The  "routing and gateway" try blank as
well as anything else. I have'nt figured just how but somehow the loop back
or something is trying to talk to itself.  PPP0 can be configured too if you
want.
