     I vaguely remember this was a bug in Mdk 6 on some installs. 
You could prob'ly find the fix on the mailing list archives,
but since you've got 7.1 coming, why bother

    XF-4 is beta, XF3.3.6 is solid... I tried 4 twice, once with
7.0 and again with 7.1. Both times I quickly went back to 3.3.6.
Same thing with KDE2, not quite ready yet. 7.1 has some of 7.0's
bugs fixed and has a lot better hardware recognition.  I'd suggest
you save all your personal files and do a 7.1 clean install. Your
zip and cd-rw should be no problem.
