Go ahead and install 7.1. You're going to like it...A LOT! However, XF86
4.0 is still a little buggy so you will want to load the older version
that comes with 7.1. You will be prompted as to which one you wish to
load. I will forewarn you though. It is very likely that an upgrade from
your current version to 7.1, or any other version for that matter will
take a VERY long time. I've heard as high as 17 hours. I've experienced 5
hours for what I call an install overlay. That's not fool proof, but it's
much faster then a standard upgrade install.

All that amounts to is install down over top of the existing
installation without formatting. I would strongly suggest though if at all
you can to do a fresh install. Back up as much as you can and just make a
fresh install. You won't regret it cause Mandrake 7.1 is absolutely drop
dead gorgeous! Definately worth going to the trouble of doing a fresh
install for.
