Just about every spam message I get these days is in
HTML. I usually delete these a microsecond after opening
them. Some of them have javascript. A javascript code,
much like visual basic, can hang around and wreak havoc on
your computer without your consent. If you prefer that
vulnerability, use Outlook.
I use Pine. If someone attaches a digital image to an
e-mail and I choose, I can easily save the image file and
view it with xv or xli. HTML adds nothing to the flow of
information, which is what e-mail is. Just my opinion of
course.
Here's another. Microsoft's business philosophy has always
been: make them believe they need what you sell them. Sort
of drug dealing on a mega scale. One way they do this is
with e-mail and Outlook. Using a mailer without HTML may
seem to some a limitation. "Gee, look what they can do on
their computer!" But when the "ILOVEYOU"'s start coming in,
look who is still standing.
