Why is it you would like to put training wheels on a fighter-jet?

Honestly, I would look for an ISP in your local area that will support your
new O/S choice, and possibly become a new (local) source of information if
you were to ask.

Best of luck with Linux!

By the way, some of AOL's servers are Linux and most are Unix!!

Yes there is a good one. Go to ftp.newaol.com. go to the aim directory and
download the binary:You will need to either have JDK1.1 from www.blackdown.com
or the JaveVM with Netscape version 4.7 or higher.

aim-linux-1.19.sh something to that effect.

save it anywhere but I use the "standard" either .the "/opt" directory, which
I don't use anymore at all, or you can use the "/usr/local" directory which
seems to be the favorite.

you will have to make the aim install binary executeable by typing:

chmod +x aim-linux-1.1.19.sh

then execute the script by typing
either:

./aim-linux-1.1.19.sh

or:

sh aim-linux-1.1.19.sh

go to the aim directory that was just created;

/usr/local/aim

and type ./aim or sh aim to run the program.

The rest should be history.
