Thanks for the pointer. I guess I'm from the old school so my sys
admin stuff is done by my doing an su to root rather than logging on
as root. Thus, most of this graphical stuff doesn't seem to work for
me. But your pointer does show that kdmconfig is being run and I can
do that from the commandline.
I'm still a bit perplexed by what goes on to determine which icon is
going to be used for a user and why I have none as I've done nothing
(that I know of) to turn them off. Interestingly, while my system
shows icons for myself and root in kdmconfig, when I try to choose an
icon the list comes up empty. Go figure. One of the deep mysteries
of life :-)
