I'm sure you're right, but I had two other guys look at it an none of us
could figure out how to bring it up (not that that means anything). After
several installs the configuration always came up looking like:

[root@tux /root]# ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.0 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

I didn't see eth0 (even though at boot up eht0 [ PASSED ], however dhcpd did
fail) and I didn't see the "typical" loopback address 127.0.0.1, only
127.0.0.0?

When I typed route all I saw was:

[root@tux /root]# route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use
Iface
127.0.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 lo

I also tried using the network config gui tool under DrakX. It didn't
complain or throw any errors but I couldn't see that anything was change and

it had no affect. I tried also to add an entry using 'route' by hand and it
errored out with something like SIOADDRNORT - i can't remember exactly...

I'm sure typically everything just works but for some reason I couldn't get
any perphials to work with this motherboard except the AGP card and
eventualy had to get a different CDROM to even get the OS
installed...*shrug*

I have the Linksys 10/100 Version2.0 installed in 3 different systems which
each have a different brand of MOBO. All were auto dedected and the driver
loaded and I use DHCP on all. Your problem was more likly related to
NetConfig than to the "stars".
