     What does 'dmesg' say?  You should see something like this:
Serial driver version 4.27 with MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT SHARE_IRQ enabled
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
ttyS02 at 0x03e8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

    IIRC, I haven't had to configure serial ports since LM 6.1. If 
you're not getting the ports set automatically you might need to check 
your bios settings. Otherwise you can use a 'setserial' line (see info 
setserial) at the end of your rc.local file to configure the ports.
