I have been using these new RPMs since the day they were released and I can
tell you that they are great. I could never get Mandrake's standard KDE2 (in
the download version, not the Wallmart one) to run stably for me. With this
version, I get a heap of bugfixes as well as new features! Sure, a few new
bugs exist, but they are relatively minor. I can finally use Konqueror as a
web browser (before it would crash all the time), although it still does
crash occasionally.
One interesting thing (among others) I noticed was Konqueror's new bookmark
system, which is now in XML format and is editable via the keditbookmarks
app. This programme can import and export Netscape and Mozilla bookmarks.
Currently it has one "bug", however. When the new Konqueror is first started,
it is supposed to automatically import all of your old Konqueror bookmarks
(in .kdelnk and .desktop formats) into the new format, and if it can't find
those it is meant to import your Netscape ones. My problem was that it
skipped importing my Konqueror bookmarks and converted my outdated Netscape
ones. The solution I found was to delete the newly-created
/home/yama/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml file, move or rename my
Netscape and Mozilla bookmarks (so Konquerer couldn't find them), and then
run Konqueror again. This forced it to convert the correct bookmarks set.
