if someone else has not yet suggested, (I have the same card) set it up
outside of xwindows ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F3] same time) and login as root, type
"sndconfig" run the setup and then ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F7] same time) to get back
into xwindows... workes for me
