Hmm. On my v7.1 setup, its "rec" only. So, for example:

rec sample.wav (and speaking into my mic)

gives me a .WAV file in my home directory. Also, its <control> <c> that stops
the recording...

Adrian, are you perhaps using an older or newer version of Mandrake than me?

PS "play <sample name>" from a shell/command line lets you listen to the
sample, or you can just click on it from X.
