What happened was that you didn't configure your "extra" drive space. By default,
linux sets any new partiton as either blank (nonGUI), or SWAP (GUI). What you will
have to do, is to do it all again but to make sure that you don't specify the
partition for anything (unmounted). If it is to be used by linux, partition it as
ext2fs or Reiserfs (bleeding edge). Just don't mount any partitions to it. And swap is
a partition.
