[newbie] the downloaded targz file via windowME can not be read by linux(LM7.2), need hel

Dear LM7.2 user:

  I download a driver of my conexant softmodem to cdrw on windowME via aol,
but
Lm7.2 can not read it, it complaint input/output error

I tried
mount -t vfat /dev/cdrom /mnt

it is not work too.  Need help
