I bed u should try easily
mount  /dev/cdrom /mnt

first, if not work try
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt

I'm not so sure with the file type of the cdrom
find out, may be in /usr/doc ..

I just feel the option " -t vfat " 
you used is just not correct because vfat is Windows
file system rather than CDROM file system
