[newbie] KMail problems

I have newly installed Linux-Mandrake 7.2

My internet connection is successful, and I can browse using Konqueror.
I can also send mail using KMail but i can not read the mail on the server
at all.

I really want to aviod using Netscape if at all possible - it's the only browser
that i prefer IE over. I am getting by booting into 'doze at the moment but the 
sooner i can let that go the happier.

Any help appreciated
