First of all, do not configure your mail in root.  Each user has their own 
separate mail settings.  NEVER USE ROOT UNLESS YOU ARE DOING ADMINISTRATIVE 
TASKS!!!  Did you enter the pop host correctly.  It may be pop."ISP mail 
server".com/net.  If all else fails call your ISP for the correct settings, 
they can provide them for you.
