Rather than use the KDE Control Panel, try entering your Kmail settings from
the Confirugre... menu (under Settings on the KMail menubar).

To elaborate a bit on Jay's information: When you configure your POP settings
from KMail, remember that "Name" means the name you give this account so you
can identify it (you can have multiple accounts). In the case of the account
I'm using now i chose the obvious-if-not-especially-clever moniker Earthlink
Mail. "Login" is your account name on the ISP's mailserver, which for me is
wluffman (not [EMAIL PROTECTED]). "Password" is the password you use to
log onto the mail server -- this may or may not be the same as the password
you use to log onto the ISP itself. "Host" is the POP server's name, which
for me is mail.earthlink.net. Unless your ISP tells you otherwise, just use
KMail's defail port number.

As for server names, most POP servers use something like pop.yourserver.net
and most SMTP servers use something like smtp.yourserver.net. But "pop" and
"smtp" are not universal names. For example, Earthlink uses a single server,
mai.earthlink.net, for both incoming and outgoing mail even though its uses
the POP and SMTP protocols. If you aren't certain of the names your ISP uses
for its servers, check the documentation you got when you signed up or call
the ISP's helpdesk.
